Therapeutic Apologies for Healing and Growth
October 26, 2026 • 11am - 4pm Eastern - 5 CE credit hours
5-hour training with Dr. Adele Lafrance and Lisa McCaskell, RSW
Therapeutic apologies are among the most powerful interventions in Emotion-Focused Family Therapy (EFFT). Rooted in attachment theory, interpersonal neurobiology, and emotion transformation theory, they support the healing of relational ruptures that contribute to emotional, behavioral, and mental-health challenges across the lifespan.
When caregivers can acknowledge impact - separate from blame - children and loved ones experience increased safety, reduced emotional reactivity, and improved treatment engagement if relevant,
This training will offer a deep dive into the “standard” EFFT apology model, with particular attention to its application between parents and children (of any age) and between co-parents, including those navigating separation or co-parenting across households. We will also review the “universal apology,” including a surrogate version, as well as explore adaptations for different cultural and relational contexts.
Case examples, video demonstrations, and (time-permitting) guided practice will help participants build fluency and confidence. Associated handouts will be provided with no reproduction limits, allowing therapists to integrate the material directly into their work. Video demonstrations and opportunities for practice may be available, time permitting.
No prior training required. Participation can be active or passive. Videos may be included and therefore this training will not be recorded.
